The Boy on the Wooden Box

The book I read was The Boy on the Wooden Box by Leon Leyson. This book was 203 pages long. Something you might know about Leon Leyson is that he survived the holocaust. My favorite part of this book is all the interesting facts it taught me.

Suddenly the gun fired. In The Boy on the Wooden Box Leon Leyson and his family want to live a normal life again. Since they are Jews during the Holocaust, they have to stay in Ghettos and Concentration Camps. In those places they are treated miserably, and have no resources such as food and water provided. So, Leon’s father’s boss decides to provide extra care for the Leysons and a few other Jewish families. That care includes a tiny bit of food and some time away from the Ghetto. Then as the Holocaust gets worse, it gets harder, and harder to survive, and the labor for the Jews gets harder and has a punishment of death. Will Leon and his family survive the cruel Holocaust? Swindle

The book I read was Swindle by Gordon Korman. This book is 256 pages long. Something you might know about Gordon Korman is that he wrote some of the 39 Clues books. My favorite part of the book is when Griffen and Ben have to devise a secret plan.

1 MILLION DOLLARS! Griffen and Ben are two friends that go to the same school. They want to get a baseball card that they got scammed off back. The card they got scammed off was a Babe Ruth card. A man who later gets the nickname “Swindle,” bought the card from Griffen for $120 dollars. Then one day, Griffen and Ben hear that Swindle was going to sell the card in auction for a starting price of $200,000. That was when they realized that they had been cheated. Then, Griffen and Ben had to devise a plan and make a team to steal the Babe Ruth card back. Will Griffen and Ben get the potential $1,000,000 baseball card back? The Crossover

The book I read is the Crossover by Kwame Alexander. This book is 238 pages long. Something you might know about Kwame Alexander is that he came to P.A for in authors visit. If you like the book Booked you should love the Crossover. My favorite part of this book are the rhymes in the beginning.

3…2…1…Josh attempted shooting a league championship winning buzzer beater that if he missed his team would lose. Josh Bell is a teenager with a twin brother named Jordan. Josh wanted to become better friends with his brother, but Jordan had recently got a girlfriend, and he had stopped hanging out with Josh. So Josh tries everything to try and get Jordan to start doing things with him. Then one day in a basketball game Josh gets mad at Jordan for no reason and pegs the basketball at his face. After that Jordan gets mad at Josh and refuses to talk to him completely. Will Josh be able to become friends with his brother again? Read the Crossover by Kwame Alexander to find out.

 

Animorphs: The Invasion

The book I read was Animorphs: The Invasion by K. A. Applegate. Something you might know about this author is that she wrote the whole Animorphs series. If you like science fiction books, you will probably like this book. My favorite part of Animorphs: The Invasion is when the characters morph into wild animals.

“He is coming!” screamed Jake, running as fast as he could. Jake, Cassie, Tobias, Rachel and Marco are all kids in the same grade. They are on a mission to  take down the Yeerks, who are aliens who take control of human bodies.  The Yeerks are starting to take over the whole town. Eventually, even the police officers and Jake’s own brother become Yeerks. The five friends, who come to call themselves the Animorphs, use the morphing powers given to them by the Andalite to turn into different creatures. Finally, the Animorphs attempt to conquer the Yeerks by using their morphing abilities. Will the Animorphs be successful in conquering the Yeerks, or will they become Yeerks? The City of Ember

The book I read was The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. This book is 270 pages long. Something you might know about Jeanne DuPrau is that he wrote The People of Sparks. My favorite part of this book is that it always left me wondering what would happen next.

I see it yelled Lina! Lina and Doon were 12 year olds that lived in the city Ember which is underground and the only light comes from an old generator. They wanted to find a way out of Ember because the city was starting to fall apart. Eventually Lina found some instructions that they thought were hints to escaping Ember, but the instructions were written in bits and pieces because Lina’s baby sister chewed on them, making them difficult to read. So Lina showed them to Doon and her friend Clary, so they could try to read them. Then they thought that they had figured out that the way out was in the pipeworks, which happened to be where Doon worked. Will Doon and Lina find a way out, or will they be stuck in Ember forever? The Surprise Attack of Jabba the Puppet

The book I read was The Surprise Attack of Jabba the Puppet by Tom Angleberger. This book is 208 pages long. Something you may know about Tom Angleberger is that he wrote the whole Origami Yoda series. My favorite part of this book is all of the origami because I think it’s funny

“That’s it! I’m calling your parents!” yelled Mrs.Rabbski. In this book the students at McQuarrie Middle School want to get rid of Funtime. Funtime is the educational program that the school uses to prepare for their state tests. To try and stop it they build an origami rebellion. The rebellion planned to fail the tests on purpose, until they had a meeting with Mrs.Rabbski, the principal. She told them that if they fail the tests they get expelled from the school. So after that, they come up with an idea to try and get a 68 on the tests, so the grade’s average move down. If it works, their will be no more of the miserable Funtime, but if it doesn’t they will still have to deal with it. Will the rebellion work, or will the students still have to put up with Funtime? Bud Not Buddy

The book I read was Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. This book has 245 pages. Another book by Christopher Paul Curtis is The Watsons Go to Birmingham. My Favorite part of this book was, “Bud Caldwell’s Rules to having a Funner Life,” because they always made me laugh.

Bud glanced at the old, grumpy man, and thought what he should do. Bud is a kid that lived in a foster home until he got picked up by the Amoses’. When he got to the Amoses’, they got mad at him for fighting Todd, the Amoses’ kid, so they made him have to sleep in a shed. When he was sleeping in the shed, he broke through the window and escaped. When he escaped, he eventually ran into Bugs his old best friend. When he was with Bugs they traveled to Hooverville. At Hooverville, Bugs and Bud tried getting onto a train, but Bud didn’t make it to the train because he dropped his papers in his bag, and they were separated again. Eventually, Bud was picked up by a man named Lefty Lewis, and he took him where his dad lived. When they got their Bud saw that his dad looked old and mean, and he didn’t know if he wanted to meet him. Will Bud meet his dad or will he continue to live on his own? The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee an Origami Yoda Book

The book I read was The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee an Origami Yoda Book by Tom Angelberger. This book is 160 pages long. Something you might know about Tom Angelberger is that he wrote the whole entire Origami Yoda series. The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee is very simular to the books in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. My favorite character in this book is Murky because he is silly and weird.

Then, all of a sudden, Harvey ripped the Fortune Wookiee out of Sarah’s hands!  In this book the students of McQuarrie Middle School want Dwight to come back to their school. Dwight  goes to Tippet Academy because he got suspended from McQuarrie for a couple months for folding an Origami Yoda. Everyone at McQuarrie thinks Tippet Academy is turning him into a normal person. So, to make him come back, Tommy writes case files to show Dwight whats happening to the school and Sarah makes a Fortune Wookiee to replace Origami Yoda. She tells everyone that Dwight gave it to her even though he didn’t. Eventually, Tommy rides his bike to Dwight’s house, and sneaks in it when he’s not suppose to. When he gets in there, he tells Dwight all about the school getting bland, and begs him to come back to McQuarrie. Will Dwight stay at Tippet or go back to McQuarrie?

Fuzzy Mud

The book I read was Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar. This book is 208 pages long. Another book by Louis Sachar is Holes. If you like books in the scientific fiction genre you will probably like this book. I love how Mr.Sachar uses lots of mysterious cliff hangers.

Splash! Tamaya tumbles into the thick fuzzy mud. Tamaya is a young girl who walks to school everyday with her neighbor, Marshall. One day Tamaya and Marshall are walking home from school, and Marshall tells Tamaya he has a shortcut. Marshall is really taking the shortcut to avoid getting into a fight with a kid named Chad. In the woods, while they are taking their “shortcut”, they run into Chad. He fights Marshall and threatens to fight Tamaya. Before Chad can do anything to her, she picks up some fuzzy mud and chunks it at Chad’s face. Later that night, Tamaya’s hand feels wierd. She thinks it is from the fuzzy mud. The next day at school, Tamaya finds out Chad is missing, so during lunch Tamaya goes into the woods and tries to find Chad. Eventually she finds him, but he has been effected by the fuzzy mud and is blind. Tamara tries guiding him through the woods back to school, but on the way, she tumbles into some of the mud. Will Chad save Tamaya, even though she made him blind, or will he leave her in the fuzzy mud on her own? Read Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar to find out.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Old School

The book I read was Diary of a Wimpy Kid Old School by Jeff Kinney. This book is 224 pages long. Something you might know about Jeff Kinney is that he is the author of all the books in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Old School is very similar to all the other books in this series. I love the comedy Mr.Kinney used in this book.

Vroom! The car zoomed off into the hole! Greg Heffley lives with his mom, dad, grandpa, and his brothers Rodrick and Manny, and the family’s pet pig. Greg’s mom is always trying to bring back trends from the “Good Old Days” to the family. His dad, on the other hand, is always getting mad at him for not doing simple things such as not putting the lid back on his toothpaste. One day Greg’s mom took a petition to town hall and made everyone go 48 hours without electronics, and that got Greg mad. When his dad was out of town, Greg dropped his toothpaste lid into the drain of his sink. When that happened it caused a big leak. In order to fix the leak, Greg’s grandpa drove him to the hardware store even though his driver’s license was expired. On the way to the hardware store, they ran out of gas in the middle of the street, so his grandpa walked to get gas from the gas station. While Greg was in the car by himself an accident happened, and he drove the car into a hole and dented it. Greg knew his dad would be mad, so he thought about going on a class field trip that he already considered missing. Will Greg go on the trip to avoid his dad, or will he stay home and take a chance and hope he doesn’t get in trouble? Read Diary of a Wimpy Kid Old School by Jeff Kinney to find out what he does.
